Ya know how Mya was recently a flower girl? I never mentioned, though, how when our friends asked us if she could be in their wedding, I was so excited that I went out and bought fake flower petals– just so we could practice around the house. Mya would “walk” and “throw” the petals like a champ! (No, it doesn’t take much for her to make me oh so proud.) As it turned out, she rode in a wagon and was too busy smiling and waving to mess with any petals. So we are now left with the fun memories of Mya as a flower girl… and a $5 box of fake flower petals. Since I like exploring the opportunities of residual items, I figured these faux florals could be something more… and it turned out super cute!
It was so easy and took hardly any time (just 1 hour!) to complete. I gathered some already owned items and went to
work play. I bet I only used 1/3 of the petals, so we still have more to experiment with… or make more of these babies!
This was one of those simple projects that I didn’t know if it would amount to much in the end, but it really turned out sweet and looks so adorable in Mya’s room. I like the depth and layering of the petals. I also like the two tones of pink (as opposed to just one petal color) because it adds some visual interest. I went with a white edge because I didn’t want to take attention away from the softness of the faux flowers… and it seems to help the piece “pop” off the wall.
Including this fun little project, we had a really relaxing weekend at home. And staying true to the “heart” theme… These two own my heart. I’m sorry, but there is nothing sweeter in this world.
Did you do any fun weekend projects? Now you can sleep soundly… knowing that you can put all your faux flowers to good use. Sweet sweet dreams.
