With another Foodie Friday (late edition) upon us, it’s hard to believe that we are already a week into August. For some, this means the kids are getting ready to head back to school. For others, it means that we are racing toward the end of prime grilling season. To make the most of it, Ashley picked up a couple of steaks for us last week. We decided on stir-fry noodles as a side dish, so naturally we had to complement with a good Asian steak marinade. We landed on this tasty recipe, which we modified for what we had in the pantry.
2 steaks of your choice
1/3 cup canola oil
1/8 cup low sodium soy sauce
1/8 cup balsamic vinegar
2 Tbsp honey
4 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 tsp ground ginger OR 2 Tbsp fresh ginger, minced
1/2 tsp onion powder
crushed red pepper to taste
1. In bowl, whisk together all ingredients (except for steak!)
2. Place steaks in shallow dish or ziplock bag. Pour marinade over the top to coat evenly. Marinate 30 minutes to 12 hours. (We usually opt for the 30 minutes because we don’t plan meals ahead!)
3. Grill and enjoy!
This marinade offered an excellent balance of flavors, resulting in a complex, but not overpowering Asian flavor. We will definitely be coming back to this recipe in the future. As for the noodles – we’re still perfecting those. We’ll let you know once we come up with a winner.
