I never took any kind of organized belly photos when I was prego with Mya. There was the occasional mirror selfie in my pjs, but nothing anyone would care to see! But this time around, I thought it would be fun to include Mya. I use the BabyCenter app, which is fun to track your pregnancy; and each week, I’m informed of the size of baby compared to a food. Each month, we grab whatever type of (typically) fruit is mentioned and have a little photo shoot.
8 WEEKS | GRAPE
Food cravings: Ego waffles. Every night. Erp. This might be a big babe-aye!
Symptoms: Sleep whenever I could get it! A common phrase for Mya during this month was, “Mama, it’s not nap time!” While we’d be playing or reading, I would nod off and she would catch me in the act. I napped with her everyday, but I would still be in bed by 10. The house was a mess and for once, I didn’t care… as much.
Milestones: At 6 weeks, we got to see the little embryo via ultrasound.
Mya Moments: Definitely wants the baby to be a boy!
Photo shoot fun: Mya ate the “baby grape”… and wasn’t at all ashamed. (And Mom, I know you’re making fun of my socks!)
12 WEEKS | LEMON
Food cravings: The Wendy’s drive-thru was a regular stop. Junior Cheeseburger Delux. Enough said.
Symptoms: Headaches were no joke. I tried tylenol, zapping it with a Coca Cola, lots of red meat for iron, tying my hair back differently, wrapping my head with an ace bandage for pressure… Nothing really worked. Totally dumbfounded because I had ZERO headaches during Mya’s pregnancy. Somewhat nauseated in mornings, but these Sea-Bands seemed to relieve some of it for me!
Mya Moments: Mya started getting into “Daniel Tiger” on PBS and her favorite episodes involve the new baby sister “Baby Margaret.” But she still wanted a boy.
Photo shoot fun: Mya’s wearing a dress of mine from when I was her age. Sour lemon faces. We made lemonade.
16 WEEKS | AVOCADO
Food cravings: Spaghetti.
Symptoms: Mya and I were sick for a couple days with some sort of stomach flu. Then we passed it on to Derek. Then I disinfected the entire house. The tension headaches and migraines kept coming. Ironically, they seemed to be spurred from screaming Mya fits in the car– go figure, right?! The one thing that helped was some chiropractic advice. (Thank you, Tom!) He said to monitor my breathing. I was taking short breaths and breathing up through my shoulders. Instead, I should be taking larger breaths and breathing through my stomach. I relieved so much pressure in my upper neck and trapezius. Something so simple, yet truly a lifesaver… especially in those car rides!
Milestones: I could feel the babes flopping around like a little fish! We found out the gender at 15 weeks! And even though most of the people reading this blog already know the sex, I’m still going to do a “reveal” post in a couple days because Mya had a lot to say about it!
Photo shoot fun: Mya wanted to do some poses on her own… of course fully equipped with mandatory “blue crown, tutu, and dancing shoes.” (And yes, my shorts are too short. But it was really hot that day!)
22 WEEKS | SPAGHETTI SQUASH
Food cravings: All of the above?… and mini powdered sugar donuts!
Symptoms: None! I feel invincible. This feeling will last through labor and beyond, right?!
Milestones: The baby is growing hair by now and Mya thinks this is “hilarious and so weird.”
Photo shoot fun: We made spaghetti squash boats for dinner with Pops.
And we can’t forget the Dada bloopers…
