FAMILY VACATIONS for 2017

I feel like if I don’t write our family trips down for this year, they’re not going to happen. And I want them to happen. Leah has no problem sleeping 12 hours at night, Mya is ready to explore more of our world, and I want to see the wonderment in their eyes of new places. We could probably just take them to a different park and they’d be just as happy, but sometimes they don’t know what they want. Right? In the effort of “less talking, more doing,” the first step of taking these trips is to put them on Derek’s work calendar and start planning. Below are our desired, feasible family trips of 2017. With the exception of Omaha, we’ve never taken the girls with us to any of these places. We graciously welcome any advice on where to stay and what to do. And you can send us all the good vibes for traveling with kids. 😉

Estes Park, CO | May

We want to do this one soon, before the busy season for good rates and book a place from Vacation Homes by Owner. We’re also going to drive there during the night so hopefully the girls will sleep the whole way– #parentgoals. Some things on the docket thus far are horseback riding, fishing, and lots of hiking. Basically, Derek and I needed to start training and conditioning for this two weeks ago.

Omaha, NE | July

With a bunch of my family up in the Omaha area, this is a super easy one and it’ll happen many more times throughout the year than just this once. But the reason we’re putting it on the list is because we always make a special trip to the Omaha Zoo during the summer. It’s so good. The zoo is constantly updating and expanding their exhibits and landscape and I look forward to it every time we go. If you’re wanting to visit Omaha, I would also suggest visiting the Old Market, the Joselin art museum (maybe without kids though), and eating at La Casa’s pizza.

Big Cedar Lodge, MO | August

I’ve heard so many great things about this place– from friends without kids and friends with kids. Some of their kid-related activities include bonfires, fishing, archery, boating, and they are soon opening a “fun zone” amusement park with entertainment and dining.

San Diego, CA | September

One of my besties from college just moved out there with her hubby, so it sounds like the perfect opportunity to introduce the girls to the ocean for the first time. Mya already said she won’t go near the water because she doesn’t want to get stung by a jellyfish, but I think once she’s there, she might change her mind. Plus, I don’t think she’ll have any contingencies about going to Sea World.

Clearwater, FL | November

This trip will be for Mya’s birthday so she can finally meet Winter (the dolphin with the prosthetic tail from the movie “A Dolphin Tale”). It will be her dream come true. But that’s all we have on the to-do list. That, and play in the sand.

Those are it! Our five family trips that we hope to take this year. Derek and I would also like to take some quick solo trips– possibly to Dallas and Chicago. So we shall see. I definitely have the itch to go somewhere– not sure why, but probably because we’ve basically been hermits the past couple months and this Mama needs to stretch her wings. Watch out, world.. well specifically Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri, California, and Florida… we’re comin’ for ya!

Ashley, check out YMCA of the Rockies for Estes Park. They have tons of activities/lodging for families! Horseback riding, craft centers, pool, mini golf, rollerskating, campfires, hiking, etc. I remember going as a kid and having lots of fun!

Thank you, Alyssa! I’ve never been there. Sounds like a perfect spot– we will definitely go there with the girls!

You overwhelm me with your ambition, but I know you can do it. Good luck getting reservation for May with VHO. Keep us up to date. Sounds spectacular.

“Ambition” or “stupidity.” Take your pick. 😉 We secured VHO a couple days ago. And then got some airline tickets because a 1 hr flight sounded more appealing than a 10 hr drive.
