Mya’s party was yesterday and it was a blast. I just have to filter through the 502 photos (no, I’m surprisingly not exaggerating) and we’ll share the highlights soon! But until then, we have one of our favorite crafty things from her birthday bash: a flower wall!
Ok, the title of this post might be a stretch. But our gal is obsessed with cats, so I’m sure she’d think it’s funny. And yes, you guessed it, Mya was a kitty for Halloween. It is more of an outfit than a costume, but it embodies two of her favorite things: kitties and tutus. (The ensemble is from Mudpie.) I had the lofty goal of making a costume, but when I saw this lil’ number, I couldn’t resist!
Mya has been wearing her “kitty makeup” everyday the past week. She has been asking me to wear it too, so I finally obliged on Halloween and wore it with her in public. I will say, it made grocery shopping pretty fun. Maybe us adults should jump on the superhero-cape-wearing bandwagon and make this a regular thing.
We’ve had Halloween fever ever since acquiring Mya’s costume (check out her sneak preview), so we’d been planning a family adventure to the pumpkin patch. With weekends quickly filling up with activities, we decided an impromptu Monday evening road trip was in order. We had heard about a few good area spots, but the ones we knew of were either closed during the week or too far for a weeknight trip. Luckily, we came across Schaake’s Pumpkin Patch, a splendid family farm outside of Lawrence, KS.
I’ll just admit it… Mya’s not too good with her colors. Everything was “boo” and now it’s “yeh-woh.” So in the effort to not feel like I’m failing as a parent, we made a color kit. (We also made one for her friend Paiy, which you’ll see in some of the pictures below.) It was super easy and inexpensive (under $10) to make.
This FAB FREEBIE has ended. Congrats to KG from Independence, MO!
We are SO excited to be partnering with See Kai Run for a giveaway! See Kai Run is Mya’s favorite shoe brand and we can’t wait to share the comfort and style with another kiddo out there! Let me tell you how I became a super fan of this brand:
Mya is a girl that loves her shoes. When Nana ordered Mya her first pair of See Kai Run’s, wide-eyed Mya opened the box and dropped her jaw– hand over mouth in disbelief. They were gold and sparkly (Kalia – Gold to be exact), and she couldn’t wait to try them on! She slipped into them and underwent a princess transformation. She stood up, froze in her stance, curtsied, and proclaimed “Princess!” She ran to put on a tutu and crown (to complete the outfit, of course) and wouldn’t take them off. Even for nap.

We had driven past this place a hundred times before and never stopped. Big mistake. But finally last weekend, we took Mya to the “Wild West Days” at Mahaffie Stagecoach and it was a blast. The Wild West Days only happens once a year, but this place is constantly having events and festivals, offering families hands-on, interactive, and unique experiences. Mya was definitely one of the youngest kiddos there (since activities included gold panning, leather stamping, blacksmithing, air gun shooting, and branding!) But she definitely enjoyed petting tickling the miniature donkeys and 3000 lb oxen.
We had a neighborhood garage sale last month and we sold a bunch of stuff. What Derek didn’t tell you: During the sale, Mya and I took a break from selling and went down the hill to see what our neighbors had to offer…. and we wound up with this gem– an old school desk that we made new again.
Ok, it wasn’t much of a looker when we obtained it, but I saw some potential. (And I figured it would be difficult to make it worse than it was!) Mya’s taking more interest in coloring and drawing, so it seemed like the perfect time for this new project. A metal base and a wood top looked like a solid foundation, right? So for $10, we snatched it up (or rather we walked home and asked Derek to please go pick it up in the car!)

In case you've been wondering where we've been the past few days, we've been Road Trippin'! (We know you guys await these posts with bated breath-- psht!) I grew up visiting family…
Since this blog is really for us to learn new things, connect with people, and just remind us of things that we would most likely forget later in life, we thought we'd…
Derek and I have lots of small family members that happen to celebrate birthdays and Christmas and buying presents for all of them every year gets expensive. We thought a fort…
